Who should attend: Production and plant managers

What you’ll learn: This 2-day program focuses on the management and technical skills necessary for today’s production and plant managers. This training addresses production data measurement and collection, safety, lean manufacturing, delegation, hiring and training supervisors, HR issues, environmental requirements, cost estimating, and other topics.

Topics (subject to change):

1. Hiring the Right People
The importance of focusing on hiring the right people, training them continuously, establishing goals, measure performance and provide them feedback.

2. Preventive Maintenance
These machines are the life blood and represent a very large capital investment. As the production manager you want to have a maintenance department and maintenance plan that protects this investment.

3. Personnel Training Production Capabilities for Customer Service and Sales
What can production do to provide a better understanding and how can the production work with the other department managers to provide a process of mentoring and training for the sales professional and customer service representative.

4. Seeing the Bigger Picture “A Company Wide Perspective”
It is all too easy to think of your department as an island. But successful plants have a culture of viewing themselves with a company wide perspective rather than a departmental one. What one does impacts those up stream as well as downstream.

5. Measuring the Total Production Performance
“People play the game by how you keep score”. Clearly defined goals are important to the successful operation. The performance of the production department must reconcile and support the Owner’s vision for the company.

6. Using your System Capabilities to Improve Plant Operations
What are the capabilities of our company information system? I don’t believe that the cost estimating system reflects what is required to run this item. Is there a way to check and find out what the actual set-up and run time on an item is?

7. The Value of Waste
Having a waste plan is important to a successful operation. A 1% percentage point improvement in a sheet plant that produces 50MMSF per month can add $216,000 of annual profit.
