Bay Cities was awarded the 2017 AICC/Board Converting News/Corrugated Today Innovator of the Year Award at the AICC 2017 Annual Meeting held recently in Las Vegas, NV – September 25-27, 2017.
Capturing the attention and vote of the majority of meeting attendees, the "AssemblAR App” entry won the competition. To enhance an individuals’ experience with products, Bay Cities invented an app called AssemblAR. The app works by scanning a product’s UPC code and launches the consumer into the company branded app. Consumers will no longer have to flip back and forth between a large instruction manual. AssemblAR makes assembly of products faster, better, and easier. The interactive app gives step by step 3D instructions that guide the user to their end project in a clear fashion by providing a visual manual. All you have to do is scan the product’s UPC code while in the app, start building, and enjoy. The app also allows the user to skip forward, move back, pinch to zoom or go to a where they left off during their assembly. This gives a deeper understanding of the product, without losing the place that the user was at during their assembly. AssemblAR mitigates the anger of frustrated consumers, and provides them with a constructive solution. Companies also have the option of creating an AssemblAR app specific to their brands.
This year’s competition was open to boxmaker members and gave companies the opportunity to showcase innovations they have created to increase plant productivity, improve plant efficiency, and overall, serve as the solution to a specific production or management problem.
Taking second place in the competition was Green Bay Packaging - Great Lakes Division for their Label Stock Inverter entry and third place was awarded to Acme Corrugated Box Co. for their Fully Integrated Finished Goods Conveyor System.
Developed twenty-seven years ago as a forum for box makers and suppliers to put forward their best innovations, the Innovator of the Year has since evolved into a highly competitive arena that highlights the technological innovations of AICC members in production, material handling, manufacturing, training and administration. Cosponsored by Board Converting News & Corrugated Today, the competition alternates its focus between box makers, suppliers, and non-machinery aspects of the converting industry.
