Course Description:

This course will touch on many of the components of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for packaging manufacturers, with particular attention to autonomous maintenance, a maintenance strategy wherein machine adjustments and minor maintenance is performed by trained operators. 

Protecting the investment made in equipment is essential, but often overlooked due to high production demands. Normal operation of equipment causes continuous wear of press parts even under the best of conditions. Abrasive inks, substrates, and dust only accelerate the wearing process and the related quality problems. Additionally, neglect of equipment costs the company press efficiency and increased waste.

This course was developed to familiarize maintenance technicians and capable crew members with the operating and safety systems, machine settings, and routine maintenance procedures. Machine side and hands-on training will be gained on the RDC at Fox Valley Training College.

Any attendee will be able to apply what they have learned to their machine in their plant whether it is a Rotary Die Cutter or a Flexo Folder Gluer.

What Does This Course Cover?

This course covers safe operations and maintenance, documentation, and  trouble shooting in four key areas of Rotary Die Cutter Maintenance: 

  • Printing
    • Parallel of anilox rolls 
    • Check bearing conditions 
    • Regular cleaning of anilox rolls 
    • Parallel of impression cylinders and cleaning of ink 
      build-up 
    • Parallel of doctor blade chambers and blade holders 
    • Condition of ink hoses 
    • Check pumps, fittings, and filters 
  • Substrate Handling 
    • Check condition and parallel of Infeed roller/ Nip roller/ Feed roller 
    • Feed plate/Feed table suction cups or rollers inspection 
    • Print unit substrate sensors 
    • Substrate height sensors 
    • Side guide adjusters 
    • Transport rollers
  • Mechanical
    • Drive belt
    • Machine oil levels
    • Automatic oilers
    • Tracks and guides
    • Gears
  • Pneumatic
    • Air lines
    • Rubbing in movement areas of machine 
    • Air/Water separators
