The week of November 11 was a busy one for AICC and its members as two industry events occurred back to back in Florida.

The Digital Packaging Summit, an invitation only event presented by NAPCO took place in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL area from November 11 through 13.  AICC participated as a sponsor as the Summit brought together converters of corrugated, folding cartons, rigid boxes, labels and flexible packaging to hear case studies and presentations from suppliers, consultants and brand owners on what represents state of the art today in digital printing and converting.  Several AICC Associate members, including HP, EFI, Durst, Highcon and SUN Automation participated.  AICC President Mike D’Angelo joined three other Association leaders in a panel discussion on the impact of digital in the printing and converting markets they serve.  There were 18 AICC general member companies involved in the summit, a growth of more than 400% over the previous year.

The Fast Markets RISI International Container Board Conference was held November 13 through 16 in Miami Beach, FL.  This now annual event brings together industry executives from around the world to hear the latest on market conditions, trends, economics and projections for corrugated.  AICC participated as a media sponsor.

AICC Technical Advisor Ralph Young chaired a panel discussion on “e-Commerce and the Impact on Corrugated Demand” and served as a panelist during a session on “Lightweight Linerboard: the Continued Trend Toward Lighter Materials.”

The highlight of the event was Fast Market RISI’s presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jack Schwarz, Chairman of Schwarz Partners.  Jim Porter of West Rock, in his introduction of the award on behalf of RISI, in describing all the achievements and contributions of Mr. Schwarz, gave a colorful and insightful history of several independent converting companies past and present.  Jonathan and Daniel Kraft, partners with the Schwarz family in New Indy, were surprise visitors to the event.  They presented Mr. Schwarz with a “game ball” in recognition of his multiple contributions to the winning efforts of the independent industry much in the same way that a game ball is award to the best player who leads a team to victory.  Jack and the Schwarz Partners team have a long and storied history in redefining the industry and in elevating so many through their leadership.  It was a true celebration of the Independent.
