AICC, The Independent Packaging Association represents and protects the business interests of our members in the independent sector of the corrugated, folding carton, and rigid box industries.
AICC held its first national meeting in the fall of 1974 at the Stouffer’s Riverfront Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. The 90 attendees represented fifty-four companies. They were united by a need to survive, and to set the mission that would serve independent box plant owners and operators.
Ultimately, a purpose emerged and AICC’s influence grew within the industry. It was in these early years that AICC focused on the supply of paper to independents and on the issue of competitiveness, the development of a “level playing field” for independent owners.
AICC, founded in 1974 for independent corrugated converters has since evolved to include independent packaging manufacturers in folding carton, rigid box, and other diverse segments of packaging our members provide.
AICC is and will remain the vital association that was established in 1974. Our entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to foster long term relationships with packaging manufacturers, suppliers and customers have withstood the test of time. AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, is the intersection of packaging substrates, materials, and services. As we re-position ourselves to the packaging community, AICC reflects a new paradigm in packaging. We’ve positioned our association as an innovative industry front-runner. AICC is embracing the power and diversity of independent packaging professionals. We believe there’s a place for everyone in packaging and that place is AICC.
AICC is the largest organization of corporate members in Corrugated and Paperboard. AICC will continue to leverage our brand to influence industry growth and vitality by being active in industry coalitions – NAM, ICPF, ICCA, CPA. This strengthens our alliances and fosters unity and support of Independents. AICC spearheaded the first Association Summit of packaging industry organizations to provide greater value and continue its interest in co-location and co-branding initiatives for members within the packaging industry. (SuperCorrExpo, Corrugated Week, FBA Safety Awards to name a few.)
AICC is also affiliated with the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF). ICPF supports greater public and student understanding of the global corrugated packaging industry, its products, the role it plays in the world’s distribution system and the many career opportunities available throughout the industry.
AICC is proud of its long and strong history and the contribution that its independent members have made to the paper-based packaging industries. The future is filled with excitement as AICC programming has evolved to emphasize education, emerging leaders and technology.
Investing in people is the strongest way that a manufacturer can attract and keep employees. AICC has made that investment easier than ever to make. More than 60 online courses are available to every employee at every AICC member company included with membership. These courses range from the basics of various packaging media, to safety, to advanced content in customer service and everything else that successful box plant operations need.
Young people are the future of any industry. AICC’s Emerging Leaders program enables member companies to identify rising stars in the organization and have them participate in events with other young people. These events teach emerging leaders about the industry and also create an environment where they can “build their network.” This network will serve them well as they grow in their company, in the AICC and in the packaging business.
Packaging has become a high-tech business. More automation, higher throughput speeds, web-based systems for inventory and operational control have made box plants impressively efficient operations. AICC Associate Member companies lead the way in offering next-generation technology to the packaging markets. AICC showcases these developments through its “Innovator of the Year” competitions, box plant tours conducted in conjunction with National and Regional Meetings and in AICC ownership with partner TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper Industry) in SuperCorrExpo, a quadrennial trade show for the packaging industry. SuperCorrExpo is a heavy equipment show with technology for all the diverse requirements of the market on display and in many cases operating on the show floor. It is an event that brings the industry together to explore what is possible.
AICC follows this direction to the future because that is where our members lead it. AICC is an Association that is governed directly by its members through an active Board of Directors and an active committee structure that focuses time and resources on matters that are vital to their success and growth.
