Leadership Training: Leading From Any Position
Many people associate leadership with management believing that you are only a “real leader” when you have direct reports. This is a limiting mindset that stems from paradigms that caused many of us, because of hierarchy, to have been or have had, an ineffective leader. This is because we or they did not have the skills or training on how to lead. Leadership is a privilege, and while it can be a demand of hierarchy, you can make it so much more than that.
The distinction between managing, attempting to get things done through others, and leadership, building trust and teamwork, is influence. It is both influencing yourself and the people around you to create and achieve goals. With this mindset, you can truly lead from any position.
Mike D’Angelo, AICC President, and Taryn Pyle, AICC Director of Education & Talent, will help you establish this mindset to see and understand how to be an influencer and therefore a true leader for the people around you in a way that will always be difference making for you, and for them.

Mike D`Angelo, President, AICC
Mike is a 40-year veteran of the packaging industry with experience in the corrugated, folding carton and flexible markets. After graduating
from Villanova University, Mike went to work for Bobst North America in a sales support role. Over the next 32 years he rose through various positions in the Bobst organization in diverse packaging equipment markets.
This growth culminated in an 18-year role as Vice President of Sales and Service.
Goss International recruited Mike to be its Managing Director and to transition their web offset printing press business from publications and newspapers to the packaging markets. This
challenge was successfully met resulting in the sale of Goss to a private equity company.
After Goss, Mike continued to pursue service to the paper-based packaging industry by joining AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, as Vice President in October 2016. He was elevated to the President’s role at AICC effective July 1, 2019. Mike
had been a 20+ year Associate Member of AICC and has served on the Board of Directors of the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF) including two years as Chairman. He also served on the Board of Directors
of the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA).
Mike and his wife Susan are the proud parents of two grown daughters. They live in Alexandria, Virginia.
