Facebook and Instagram both launched live-streaming options to their users and savvy marketers are using them to broadcast education, messaging, or marketing to their followings.
A great example of a brand who's taking full advantage of Facebook live is BuzzFeed. Would you click on a video of two people putting rubber bands around a watermelon until it bursts? If your answer was yes, you're among millions of people who did the same.
BuzzFeed successfully captured a massive audience for 45 minutes while they attempted this stunt. If BuzzFeed was able to amass this sort of engagement with a watermelon, imagine what you could do for your brand.
Why does Snapchat have such a massive appeal? The content disappears shortly after you create it. Once you see it, it's gone. This posting style drove Snapchat's rapid growth, and lead Instagram to create a Stories feature that achieves the same thing as Snapchat.
Savvy brands are now producing short strings of content in the form of videos and images that disappear after they are seen, or after a short period of time. It provides you with the opportunity to engage users with impermanent content that can be more playful and informal than the usual "styled" posts you see on Instagram and Facebook.
If you're not looking at Instagram stories, you're missing out on a great way to increase your engagement and bring more personality to your brand.
Content marketing is an effective way to build your, or your brand's, authority on a given topic. It serves multiple purposes as well, including marketing, lead generation, SEO and brand awareness. In my opinion, it is vastly underrated.
A great way to start implementing a content marketing strategy is through a company blog. Always make sure you write relevant posts on a consistent basis, and be sure to share them across all your social channels. As you start to engage readers on your blog, you'll start to drive traffic to your products and services, which can lead to conversions.
Videos also make a great content marketing tool. Since YouTube has the most traffic, it's best to start your channel there. Be sure to link your blog posts to your YouTube channel so you can create some cross traffic as well. The more robust and unique your content portfolio is, the more reach and engagement you will enjoy.
It only takes a few shares for an Instagram photo or a Tweet to be seen by millions of people. That's why influencer marketing is such a powerful tool.
The trick is being able to find the right influencer. When searching for an influencer, try not to confuse overall reach with engagement. Just because an account has two million Instagram followers doesn't mean it's a good fit for your brand or efforts. Instead, pay attention to both their content and engagement. Make sure they post relevant and quality content and have good (and real) engagement on their posts.
