Update: Corrects the amount of Brown County's infrastructure cost
Redevelopment plans to clear a path for a new, half-billion dollar paper mill only needed a minute to get approval from the Brown County Board Wednesday night.
As we've reported, Green Bay Packaging wants to invest a half-billion dollars in a new mill in an area being called the Fox River Paper Corridor. It needs local, county and state approval.
Brown County is being asked to provide another $5.3 million for infrastructure, purchasing the land around Quincy Street and developing the site for the mill.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says the mill would keep 1,100 jobs in Northeast Wisconsin while adding hundreds more.
Green Bay Packaging Executive Vice President Bryan Hollenbach released this written statement Wednesday night:
"We are pleased to see the Brown County Board of Supervisors recognize the economic value that Northeast Wisconsin’s papermaking industry continues to bring to our local communities. With Brown County’s infrastructure improvements, Green Bay Packaging is now positioned to construct a new, $500 million paper mill in Green Bay, making it the largest business development project in Brown County history and the first new paper mill in the State of Wisconsin in over 30 years. The new Green Bay Mill will have a profound positive impact on our local economy and the environment, and we thank County Executive Streckenbach for his leadership in helping to secure Green Bay Packaging’s future in Brown County."
