It’s estimated that there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean.

It’s nearly impossible to even wrap your mind around that number and the amount of contamination, pollution, and environmental havoc it is causing. 

However, the ocean is not the only part of the environment suffering from plastic pollution.

Un-recycled plastic that ends up in a landfill will take 100-400 years to decompose.  Since an astonishing 42 percent of the global plastic (as of 2016) is used in packaging, coupled with the fact that packaging is much more short lived than other plastic products, packaging accounts for a large percentage of waste generated.
