DPI - Retrofitting Digital Print Heads To Converting Equipment

Why do box makers want to retrofit digital print heads to their existing converting equipment?

  • To save capital costs over buying a whole new converting machinery to add digital printing capabilities.
  • To combine new digital printing capabilities with existing flexo printing capabilities.
  • To add variable printing (bar codes, sequential numbering, etc.) to their capabilities.
  • To add “inside the box” printing capabilities to existing bottom printing converting equipment.

What do box makers need to know about retrofitting digital print technology?

  • Ink jet print heads must print “down” – so “top printing” applications are easiest to retrofit.
  • Almost any converting machine can be retrofit.
  • Digital printing can print at speeds as fast or faster than existing converting equipment.
  • There is no limitation on print width – systems can be made as narrow or wide as you wish.
  • Simple PDF art is used – almost anyone in a box plant can make art for this digital technology.
