February 1, 2021 – AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, held its second virtual plant tour with a video tour and live Q&A with Wasatch Container, Thursday, January 14.

Founded in 1995, Wasatch Container is a premier custom packaging design and manufacturer in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wasatch specializes in corrugated shipping boxes, retail boxes, point of purchase displays, foam fabrication, and wooden crates. They opened their doors, virtually, to more than 300 AICC members.

The tour was guided by Jerry Frisch, the founder of Wasatch Container. After a brief company history, Frisch invited the second generation of Wasatch Container, Lauren and Ryan Frisch, to give an overview of some of the company's specialties.

Frisch then walked participants onto the floor of their original building, a 30,000 sq. ft. facility built in 1995, which houses their mini flexo folder gluer, a 50 in. flexo, several rotary die-cutters, unitizers, and several other machines in their compact space.

The tour then moved onto the design department, sharing their 2-D and 3-D rendering capabilities and their new, high-speed CAD cutting table. After a visit to Wasatch's ink kitchen, and spending time at each machine, the tour moved to the other buildings that house their crate and foam divisions. In the foam space, Frisch showed how they do die-less die cutting and how their waterjet die cutter works and other foam fabrication.

Frisch closed the tour with an overview of the company's capabilities and product mix.

Following the tour, breakout rooms were open to allow participants to ask Frisch questions and get more information from the suppliers highlighted in the video, including BCM Inks, BW Papersystems, Alliance Machine Systems, Arden Software, Zund, Inspire Automation, and GF Puhl.

The tour was sponsored by Arden Software, BCM Inks, BW Papersystems, GF Puhl, Inspire Automation, Pamarco, and Zund.

AICC's upcoming virtual tours include The BoxMaker in Kent, WA, on Wednesday, February 17, and Utah PaperBox in Salt Lake City, UT, on Tuesday, March 9.

The virtual tours will feature a video tour of the facility with time for questions from attendees. For more information on upcoming virtual plant tours and to register, visit www.AICCbox.org/VirtualTour.
