March 11, 2021. One year ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a pandemic in response to the spread of Covid-19 worldwide. It has been an eventful year for AICC members. In the early days of the pandemic there was a scramble to keep employees safe and on the job. Several states didn’t recognize box plant and supporting operations as “essential.” Those states got a quick lesson in what a supply chain is. PPE was hard to come by. Members changed a great deal of their in-plant protocols from staggering shifts to new equipment cleaning procedures. Taking employees temperatures as they entered the building became common. Office workers went remote. AICC shifted its priorities to keeping members informed about the latest laws, stimulus packages, PPP, and best practices. This was done in partnership with so many of you sharing what you know. March 17 will mark one year since AICC began posting on the web site what started as daily Covid updates and morphed into the weekly Covid updates of today. The fact that there was enough information to have a daily Covid update shows you how fluid things were in the health, government, and business worlds at the time. AICC cancelled its Spring and Fall National Meetings. AICC members and their teams have performed magnificently throughout the year. Satisfying customers and embracing what needed to be done to be successful. Today, box plant operations remain at high levels and continue to operate safely. Vaccine distribution is ramping up more and more each week and with each shot in an arm, optimism grows for the day when the pandemic is put behind us. Your AICC staff looks back on the past year with sadness for those lost and with pride for what you all accomplished. We are not surprised at the accomplishments – our members have always impressed us with their innovation, their openness, and their altruism. A tip of the hat to AICC members everywhere! Michael M.
