AF&PA Update on Maine EPR Bill

Maine Legislature Passes EPR Bill, Next to Governor

Quick Take: The Maine Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging Bill (LD 1541) passed the Maine legislature on June 18. The 10-day time limit for the Governor to veto or pass does not start until she "officially" receives the bill, but it is expected to start around June 30. Governor Mills is likely to sign or allow the bill to pass without her signature, so in addition to continuing to make our case for a veto, we are working on a plan to address the regulatory stage of the process.

  • What's Next? Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to the Office of the Governor to urge her to veto the bill and AF&PA’s grassroots outreach messaging can be used by Maine residents on our Grow the Vote page. AF&PA issued a press statement following passage and continue to make outreach in the state on our opposition.
